Caine’s Arcade…..

So I am basically the biggest cynic on the plant. I basically can not stand most people due to the fact that people forgot how to be human. On a daily basis I see how badly people treat one an other, even on the simplest of realms. I am to the point where leaving the house is becoming a chore because I am really tired of encountering how badly humans treat one another. However, I do not think it is so difficult to show someone a little common courtesy. So when I was forwarded this video my heart actually warmed up and grew a little….imagine the Grinch here, when looking down at Whoville and witnessing the Whos rejoicing in Christmas though he still tried to destroy it for them.Zaboo Zaboo!

So this is where Caine come’s in to warm the little cockles of my Grinch heart. Caine is a nine year old boy in East LA who has a wonderful sense of entrepreneurship. What touched me about Caine is that he did something because he enjoyed it and with a wonderful sense of creativity. Watching a community, thanks to one man, rally around this little boy and support him proved to me may be there honestly hope for the human race. The people that supported him showed me that people can still come out and do something unselfishly for someone else. Now I am sure this happens quite often though I am not aware of it but it is usually for some charity event where if you are aware of it you are expected to give what you chose whether it be your time, money or something else. However, with Caine it was just to support a boy, who you have to admit is not in the best part of LA and could be doing something else with his time. Caine is perhaps our hope for the next generation.

Stuck in a box………

So writing the ABOUT section made me think of a conversation with a friend of mine. I met this person a few years ago and we were having one of those “get to know you conversations”. You know the conversation, what do you do for a living, did you go to school, what are your likes/dislikes….etc. Well one of the things I like is heavy metal music, pretty much most genres. However, this does not mean I do not listen or like other types of music. On the contrary, I DO! Very much so. But since then this friend of mine, who by the way is a very close friend, has put my into this category, box if you will, and won’t let me out.

I was at a club with some friends and he arrived and wanted to spend a little time with me so invited me to another club that was a little more intimate. So we get to this club and he apologizes for the type of music they are playing. I was like REALLY? HUH? It was a club that played electro-techno styled music. I explained to him there was no need to apologize I liked it. He was genuinely surprised about this. He said that in his general experience that he has found that most people who like metal just don’t really care to hear anything else. Again…REALLY? Wow! I explained to him that I rather enjoy most styles of music albeit there are a few exceptions. (Those being: rap, country, most R & B)

There are still moments til this day that this comes up with him even years after these initial conversations. We were taking about going to a festival and he was saying how he didn’t think I would like any of the bands. My first thought upon hearing this was “here we go again”. So I looked up the festival.   It was a techno style festival. I also saw that one of my FAVORITE bands was playing and this set him aback. Again…REALLY?

So when it comes to this person either he forgets previous conversations and has a memory of a fruit fly or he really categorizes people and his brain can’t not comprehend someone liking more than their primary style of music.

So with him I am stuck in this box which is rather frustrating since I don’t do that to him.

This is like looking at someone who wears glasses and saying they are a nerd. That is not true some of us just like to see clearly….perhaps he should borrow my glasses!
